What a battery actually does for your bills
A home battery does not generate electricity — it shifts it. That matters, because it means the saving comes from the price difference between when you store power and when you use it. Two things create that gap: storing your own solar generation instead of exporting it cheaply, and charging from the grid on a low overnight rate to use during expensive peak hours. With solar, or without?
You do not need solar panels to benefit from a battery — a grid-charged battery on a time-of-use tariff saves money on its own, though the economics are tighter. Honestly: it depends on your tariff and how much of the stored energy you actually cycle.
