Definition: The Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS) is an England and Wales grant paying £7,500 towards replacing a fossil-fuel boiler with a heat pump. Homes currently heated by oil or LPG get an increased £9,000 grant from 21 July 2026 to 31 March 2027.
Who qualifies
Homeowners and small landlords replacing gas, oil or LPG heating. The property needs a valid EPC with no outstanding loft or cavity insulation recommendations. There is no income test, and the scheme runs to March 2030.
How to claim
Your MCS-certified installer applies on your behalf and deducts the grant from your quote. The application date sets the amount — oil and LPG-heated homes applying between 21 July 2026 and 31 March 2027 receive the higher £9,000 voucher; everyone else receives £7,500.
